The Image of God in You – Recap of the Recent Perspective on LoveWorld

On the recent episode of Perspective airing on LoveWorld the four hosts of the show discuss the topic of image. Internal image and external image and how the Lord fits into your life and image. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome constantly preaches about looking within ourselves and finding the Lord and His presence in us. Image is so often seen as an external component when in reality it the most internal force we have.

Sharon Oyakhilome:

“Social media has a big part to play, you’re constantly comparing yourself to what you think is meant to be beautiful”

Natasha Hinn:

“I think it’s really important, no matter how old or young you are, to be comfortable in your own skin through every season of life. Learn to be content, some things are out of your control and other things you might have a little more control over”

Stacy Edison:

“A lot of these things are controlled by the media

Dianna:

“I put myself down so much that I didn’t like anything. You compare yourself to other people and that’s what makes you think that you don’t like yourself”

Yet image is not just the physical side, the spiritual side of image is most important. A man is a spirit, if you spend so much time looking after your outer being, you’re going to rot from inside out. The real you is on the inside, it’s not just what you can see on the outside.

Pastor Chris says that you look like your spirit. You can’t really hide it, it will come out. Just like in the morning where you make yourself up for the day, get dressed, put on makeup etc. You need to take the time every day to internally make yourself up. You need to listen to the Word of God, meditate on the right things.

To understand where you stand on this issue ask yourself one simple question: who do you see when you look in the mirror. If you weren’t able to answer that question we have a mirror that is the best mirror that you can look into, and that mirror is the Word of God. If you want to know your true identity, the Word of God will give it to you. Out of the heart, the mouth speaks.

Once you have a full understanding of the image the way that God sees you, there’s no other image that you would want to carry. When you’re in Christ, you bear the image of the heavens, and that is the most glorious image to bear and to have. God’s image doesn’t change, His standard doesn’t change. Styles and fashion change with time but the Word of God stays the same and definite.
