Pastor Chris on traditional weddings

Jane from the United Kingdom asks Pastor Chris if it’s right for a born-again Christian to have a traditional wedding.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome in his infinite wisdom offers Jane some clarity on marriage, saying to give that which is God to God. A traditional marriage is often called for by family members and they want to carry out traditional marriages. Pastor Chris says that if the family requires that then you really have no options because those are their demands. But if they are Christians, then their tradition is the Christian one based on the word of God, not based on the tradition of some ethnicity or nationality, but Christian tradition which means church.

Pastor Chris on dating

William from South Africa asks Pastor Chris to share his views and thoughts on dating, particularly when the right time for dating is.

Pastor Chris tells William that the right time to start dating is when you become responsible, pointing out that when your parents are responsible for your education, accommodation, and everything you do, you are not responsible. Dating is the purpose of meeting someone and learning about them. You don’t just date, you date for a purpose, hoping to get married to that person if they are right for you. He continues by saying that usually dating is something that should be done when you know the right direction to go. But in Christ things are the other way, we don’t try to find out by dating first, we know first that you are right and then we date. That means that we have to have the kind of spiritual understanding to make the right decision.

Pastor Chris used the example from the Bible in Genesis, of Abraham sending a servant to find a wife for Isaac, and Isaac after receiving the blessing of Abraham instructed his sons Esau and Jacob in Genesis 28:1 – 10 who they could and could not marry, giving them exact instructions of where to go and which family to marry from.
