The Chris Oyakhilome Foundational International enlists many caring and qualified medical professionals to minister care to those in need. Those who join the Volunteer Medical Corps (VMC)carry out exceptional acts of love and kindness to the downtrodden and disgraced. In some countries conditions for those incarcerated are tough. For those who are in rehabilitation facilities the toll on their health can be devastating.
“Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently.” (James 2:14)
Inmates in correctional facilities in most developing nations are affected by medical conditions associated with overcrowding, insufficient food, and inadequate health and poor hygiene facilities. These manifest themselves as malnutrition which leads to multiple health problems. Inmates are at a high risk of catching many types of infectious and communicable diseases.
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”(Acts3:19)
Following a needs assessment carried out by members of the Volunteer Medical Corps, a mega outreach was carried out at the Buea Central Prison. This outreach was where they reached out to over 800 inmates who gave their lives to Jesus. The VMC worked closely with many key stakeholders to enable this event in Cameroon.
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Matthew 19:10)
As part of the outreach, the team also educated the inmates on managing their health during their time in prison. They gave out basic hygiene tips to prevent diseases. They gave advice on how to take care of their skin if they succumb to the disease. The VMC volunteers helped to clean up the prison yard, and they distributed gifts and food items to those who were part of the outreach.
There were numerous testimonies from the inmates, guards and other prison officials at the end of the outreach to the glory of God. These testimonies will only grow and develop as the influence of this outreach is felt. It is a truly wonderful act to reach out to those in prison and show them loving kindness.
All the prison administrators and guards were positively uplifted by the love and warmth expressed by the VMC team. The atmosphere was filled with so much grace as the inmates were ministered to with songs of worship to God.
