InnerCity Mission Partners with CE Port Harcourt Zone 1 for Community Food Drive and Family Strengthening Program

Community-Wide Impact

The InnerCity Mission for Children is at it again serving families and children in great need. Last weekend, an unforgettable event took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Christ Embassy Port Harcourt Zone 1, partnered with InnerCity Mission to organize and execute an enormous Family Support Program and Food Drive, ensuring aid to 300 families and 5 orphanages. This drive reached out to 5 communities throughout the area, providing food security for 1,408 children! The food drive took place on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at Elehahia Hall and made an incredible impact in the communities of Elehahia, Trans Amadi, Rumukalagbor, Rumbiakani, and Oginigba.

Made available to those in need were several resources that offer security and enrichment training that encourage brighter futures for all. With the support of the man of God, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, it is made possible to provide such helpful assistance to these families in need. At the food drive, there was a walk-in Food Pantry for families and caregivers to select choice food items for free! This was the first time many of these families have ever had such an invitation.

Families come from surrounding communities with eagerness to receive assistance from the InnerCity Mission

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.” Isaiah 55:1-2

In addition to the provided food security programs, there were also programs being offered in skill acquisition training that are intended to coincide with the food support that the enrolled families are receiving. This creates an inclusive aid program that instills long-term support while helping the families reach a place in which they can reimagine a future where they are able to provide for themselves and the needs of their family.

Esteemed Pastor Amaechi Udeaku addresses the attendees of the Food Drive

It is with great gratitude and thanks to the leaders at Port Harcourt Zone 1, including the esteemed Pastor Amaechi Udeaku, for joining the InnerCity Mission for this regional event. In the efforts of Christ Embassy and LoveWorld, with the support of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, God has made the impossible possible. We look forward to the end of world hunger and child poverty as we continue to partner with the will of God. May His kingdom come on earth, as it is in heaven.
