Just last week, the InnerCity Mission hosted an open commissioning ceremony at Gubio IDP Camp, inviting all to come and see the incredible provision God has made possible through the InnerCity Mission and the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI). On Tuesday, September 17th at 10:00, the highly esteemed Pastor Omoh Alabi welcomed all to Gubio, expressing great gratitude to God and hope in a more secure future for these children.
The most current project that the InnerCity Mission has taken on is the multi-project Learning Space in Gubio Camp for internally displaced people (IDP) in Maiduguri, North-east Nigeria. The InnerCity Mission has chosen to focus this project on building five blocks of classroom bays, furnishing the classrooms and installing a fence around the perimeter of the campus. These changes and improvements lead to a safer learning environment for all involved.
As school is officially in session all around the world, children are slowly getting back into the swing of things. With so many underprivileged families unable to enroll their children in school at this time, there are dire needs to be met all throughout the world. The InnerCity Mission for Children has, and is, making an on-going effort to impact and transform the quality of and access to education by raising financial support as well as working on developmental projects.
According to reports, there would be a 12% drop in global poverty if all students of low-income countries left school with basic reading skills. The InnerCity Mission sees education as the most important means to a bright future, and specifically a future above the line of poverty.
“I really appreciate what InnerCity Mission did here. As you can mention, InnerCity mission is the first organization to build here. In terms of education, there are many organizations [helping] at this camp but they are working in nutrition, in health, in child protection. But in terms of education, we do not have partners here. Sometimes UNICEF can support all children, but this is the first organization to do it. This is the beginning…” – Pessy Amani, UNICEF Representative
