Month of Prayer
LoveWorld citizens are saying goodbye to the month of June and look forward to a new month. However, before the focus for July is announced, there is much to take away and thank God for what He blessed us within the month of Prayer.
As we pray, we are not only talking to God. The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf and we simply abide in the presence of God. More often than not, prayer is in the form of a response or a request. We are asking God to do, to show, to speak, to guide; other times we are frustrated, heavy-burdened, overjoyed. To communicate with the One who created you not only comforts but affirms in the deepest part of your identity and the very thing you, and all of us, are created to do.
Prayer is transformational
As we spend more time in the presence of God, we become more like Him. This works the same with our earthly relationships, as well. It is important that we understand this as believers and take control of where we spend our time and who we spend it with. Many will pray to be transformed but struggle to get into the presence of God. This is dangerous because we cannot wait to be “more godly” in order to go before God.
The only way we will be transformed in our hearts and minds, becoming more like Christ, is by posturing ourselves before the Lord and allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us. We are not transformed into the likeness of God in order to be in His presence, but rather because we are in His presence.
God has blessed us with His Holy Spirit to impart wisdom and revelation. Communication with God is a muscle we must exercise and not neglect it in order to grow and transform into more seasoned believers, quickly recognizing the voice of the Lord apart from others.
As this month comes to a close and we partake in the very special “Your LoveWorld Pray-A-Thon” 3-day program, be encouraged by the following scriptures:
Daniel 9:18: “We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.”
1 John 5:14: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
James 5:16: “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
